According to Autocar, the Mercedes-Benz EQE Sedan and EQE SUV are set to end production in 2026, with "EV lineup realignment" cited as the reason for the discontinuation. This will effectively cancel the plan for a mid-cycle facelift of these models, which was to feature improvements to the EVA platform, including an 800V architecture, a silicon-carbide inverter, and eATS2 motors. These updates, however, are now intended for the EQS Sedan and EQS SUV.
Interim And Direct Successors' Timeline
The EQE Sedan and EQE SUV will have successors, though, and they are based on the MB.EA-M platform. According to the British publication, the C-Class with EQ Technology, featuring optional air suspension and rear-axle steering, which has already been spotted during public testing, will bridge the technological gap to the EQE Sedan and is set to launch in 2026. Meanwhile, the currently under-development GLC with EQ Technology will serve as the interim electric SUV, set to debut this month at the Munich Motor Show.
That said, the two EVA-based EVs will have successors based on the MG.EA-M platform. In fact, a direct successor has already been named, and it's the E-Class with EQ Technology, arriving in 2027. Mercedes has already started its development, and a company spokesperson has confirmed this with Autocar, although they refused to confirm the discontinuation of the EQE Sedan and EQE SUV, citing its "policy of not commenting on speculation surrounding its current and future models."
Discontinuation Meant To Give Way For Retooling
The EQE Sedan and EQE SUV were both introduced in 2022 and have undergone significant improvements since, including increased battery capacity, performance upgrades, and rear-drive decoupling, among other enhancements. The EQE Sedan is currently produced in Germany, while the EQE SUV is manufactured at the company's factory in Tuscaloosa, USA; however, American production isn't yet stable.
The end of production for the EQE Sedan and EQE SUV will give way to factory retooling and upgrades in time to produce the E-Class with EQ Technology in two years' time. We'll know more if the report from Autocar holds true in the next months, but right now, everything makes sense considering the timelines provided.
