The Datsun Cross is the production version of the Datsun Go Cross Concept that was unveiled at Auto Expo 2016. The concept hinted an entirely new crossover. However, while the production may look similar from the front, it will likely have substantial differences from other angles.
Spy shots suggest that the Datsun Cross is not an entirely new crossover, but just a jacked-up, off-road styled derivative of the Datsun Go+ MPV. It gets its rugged styling from features like high-positioned fog lamps, aggressive bumpers, black body cladding, silver skid plates and black roof rails.
Like the Datsun Go+, the Datsun Cross will offer seats for seven people. It should employ the same HR12DE 1.2-litre petrol engine as the Datsun Go+. This naturally aspirated three-cylinder mill produces 68 PS and 104 Nm of torque. Datsun could offer this engine with a 5-speed manual transmission and even a continuously variable transmission.
After Indonesia, Datsun could launch the Datsun Cross in India this year. It would not surprise us if Datsun staged a local debut at the Auto Expo 2018.
